Swirling with Thoughts

A card that we always seem to need is a Sympathy card.  So I created this card with the So Swirl Embossing Folder and Pool Party for color.  The stamp set is Loveliest Tree which works beautifully for a Sympathy card or any other occasion.  This design is what I call a Concept card because the inside verse determines the theme.

To create the look you will need Watercolor Paper and a paint brush.  Don’t worry you stroke the paper to get the Pool Party on the Watercolor Paper.

Weekly Newsletter August 12th

I need to update you on the schedule for August.   We are wrapping up Summer and it is getting hectic.  So for the rest of August, there will be no Friday Projects.  It will resume on September 6th. My assistant is so busy trying to get your children ready for school.  My schedule will stay the same until August 28th.   I will be on vacation until September 3rd. There will be a Weekly Newsletter on September 3rd.

Today I have a technique for you

.

If you need a fresh, new technique to try this is great regardless of your stamping level. no-line watercoloring!  We used the Citrus Blooms Bundle for our project, but just about any stamp set would work with this technique.

To begin, simply ink your image with Crumb Cake ink and stamp off on a piece of scrap paper before stamping the card front. The resulting image will be very light, making it easy for you to simply add color with Watercolor Pencils and still retain that “hand-drawn” look. For some playful pop, finish this fun-size, 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ (10.8 x 10.8 cm) card with a cute Summer Splash Cardstock tag stamped with Pretty Peacock ink. So fun to make and perfect for giving!

To make the second card, die cut a label from Basic White Cardstock, then stamp a lovely background in diamond shapes using Pretty in Pink ink. Stamp off the orange bough images and color with Watercolor Pencils (as before) but this time use the Blender Pen to add depth to your coloring. For extra pizzazz, add a few Peach Pie Dappled Dots and die-cut Old Olive Cardstock boughs.

For the most advanced version of this project, we used Pretty in Pink Cardstock and Pretty in Pink ink to create a tone-on-tone card front. We then added a wash of Pretty in Pink ink to the label—which makes such a nice backdrop for the citrus focal point! Use Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, Classic Stampin’ Pads, and a Water Painter to give your oranges + greenery images a handmade, watercolor look; then, top off your card with a Linen Thread bow. Ink colors are Crumb Cake, Lemon Lime Twist, Old Olive, Peach Pie, and Pretty in Pink.

So there you have it—the amazing, no-line watercoloring technique! And remember, though these cards may look intricate, they are relatively easy to re-create. Feel inspired?
