Time to Look at Colors

Good news! My Friday project is off to my assistant and should be ready for you on Friday. I am still working on Thursday’s card.  However, Tuesday’s newsletter is ready for you. I thought we would focus on color. Did you notice there is a Color Theory Wheel in the Annual Catalog on page 132?

Do you like being crafty but struggle with color schemes? In the May 2024–April 2025 Annual Catalog, we made a color wheel to help you find the colors you need for your next project.

We used color theory to create the samples above, and each sample exemplifies a different aspect of the color wheel: analogous, monochromatic, triadic, and complementary.

For the You’re the Best card, we used the analogous colors, three colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel. If you’re new to the game, our Change can be Beautiful card shows off what you can do with a monochromatic theme—just pick a color you love and pair it with shades and tints of that same color! The Best Birthday Wishes card demonstrates the beauty of crafting with colors that are evenly spaced out on the color wheel, it might surprise you what you can come up with! And last but definitely not least, the So Excited for You card shows complementary colors—opposites that attract each other—to create bold contrasts.

So now it is your turn to give the color wheel a try. You just might find a color combination you have not used.

Too Busy

Boy, was last week hectic! This last weekend is the largest craft show in the state of Iowa. It takes a lot to get ready for the show. I came home Sunday bushed. Luckily, I had made some chicken and noodles Saturday night, so dinner was no problem Sunday night. In case you’re wondering, it takes at least an hour to pack and load with about 250 vendors trying to do the same thing. So no card making and I had some new stamp sets in a box that I had not opened. That is usual for me.

I am working today and have an order to get out when I get home.  So no new card to post today.  I can promise you the newsletter will go out on Tuesday.  My hope is to try to get some cards done in the next couple of days.  My assistant needs a card for Friday.

See you Tuesday.

Weekly Newsletter September 23rd

There are some changes this week because of the craft show this weekend.  I just printed labels for some of products and need to finish up some products for the show.  I have had no time to make a card for Thursday. So I will not promise a post.  You will need to check on Thursday afternoon as I normally post in the morning.  Also, I will be setting up on Friday and there will be no project this week—plans to resume it the following Friday.  I hope to get projects to my assistant next week.

This time we are looking at new tool called the Brayer.  Stampin’ Up! had one a long time ago and now it is back!

Need a new technique or tool to feature during your next class or gathering? Why not try the Stampin’ Brayer? With its metal handle and plastic roller base (which looks like a tiny, red rolling pin!) it’s just the thing for rolling ink onto your paper. The amount of coverage is up to you!

Yessica, the Concept Artist who created this sparkly, vintage-looking card, loves that the brayer can be used on different surfaces and over a variety of finishes and textures. For this card, she used it to apply ink over a thin layer of Shimmery White Embossing Paste (which she allowed to dry before applying Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia, and Highland Heather Classic Stampin’ ink). “I love the irregular streaks!” she said.

“I used the Falling Snow Background Stamp to add yet another layer,” she continued, “making this the perfect base for a simple yet striking sentiment.” If you’re wondering about that gorgeous tag, it was made using the retro Christmas Labels Bundle. Iridescent Faceted Gems plus Iridescent 1/2″ (1.3 cm) Striped Trim finish this stunning card.

I’m looking forward to using the brayer to lay color over raised embossed images, Glimmer Specialty Paper, and much more!”
