How to Start Building!

Well, I decided to play Paper Players Challenge and the requirement was Pool Party, Island Indigo, and Whisper White.  You wouldn’t think it would be hard to come up with something.  However, I was brain dead.  I guess after doing two small delinquent property sales; my mind decided to shut down.  So what do I do?  I sit down and page by page go through the catalog.  This means all accessories so as not to miss anything.

I got to the back and saw the mask with the stars.  Okay, I am getting somewhere.  Next back to the stamp sets.  I came to Kinda Electric.  I have always liked that stamp.  Well, the light came out.  So I started creating and realized afterwards it needed one more touch.  No not another stamp set. Back to accessories and the framelits.  Happy from Hello You was perfect.

Now you can see how I  always build a card.  Not always do I start with a color.  Pick one item — a stamp set, an accessories (like ribbon), framelit, or color. Then start building.  When you think you are done, ask does it need anything else?  If unsure, lay aside and work on something else.  Then come back a few hours later. I added the balloons.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • the purpose of the card (ex. birthday, thank you)
  • the person’s favorite colors
  • what does the person like? ex dogs, cats, flowers, etc.
  • are you mailing it? (this can effect the layering of the card)
